ELECTION 2014  -  EKCOG INFORMATION SESSION

ABOUT THE SESSION AND THE VIDEO

If you're really anxious to start watching the video of our Info Session right away, you'll find it below.  But make sure you read the rest of this page after you've finished watching.

[Click] - A must-read editorial entitled "One Man's Opinion - The State Of The Onion" (no, that's not a spelling mistake).

It is a personal editorial prepared by one of our founding members, and it was distributed at the Info Session.  If you agree with its sentiments, please print copies of it and distribute it to your neighbours, and email it to all of your friends and family.  Believe it or not, it IS okay to share your opinions and to talk about politics in public - and that's exactly what is required to break the apathy which "the system" has cultivated!
In May 2013, we were told by the Clerk (and Council recorded it in its minutes), "... that the Municipal Act stipulates that Council is the deciding body for a municipal corporation and that Council members will answer for their performance to the electorate during elections."

Well ... Council members can't answer for their performance, unless someone reviews their performance.  In a nutshell, our opinion is that they are:
  1. complacent
  2. influenced far too easily by staff
  3. not as transparent as they should be
  4. disinterested in accurate records
One thing we overlooked mentioning during our presentation:  not all of the existing Councillors deserve to be tarred with the same brush.  One or two Councillors do ask the tough questions, and apply common sense.  But each member of Council (including the Mayor) only get a single vote.  So, even with one or two sensible votes, a vote of 2 against 4 or 5 will still be carried.  Please keep that in mind as you watch the video of our Info Session.

We have spent 100's of hours over the last 2 years, attending meeting, taking notes, pouring over years worth of Council minutes and committee minutes, reviewing the Municipal Act, and more.  The Information Session (in the video, above) is the culmination of that effort.

What is needed, is for everyone to vote in 4 or 5 Councillors who will consistently do the right thing, so that future votes will be 4 against 2 - not the other way around.  Make sure you attend the debate (October 16, 2014), so you can determine who those 4 or 5 Councillors are.
